The spotlight may be on England's spin duo, but don't discount the role their seamers will play either. After all, James Anderson is coming off his best-ever innings haul in Asia as he scythed through the Sri Lanka lineup on a Galle deck with little seam or swing last month.

How's the pitch: "It's dustier than what we saw yesterday. A few more rough marks for the right-hander too now. Turn and bounce might be on the slower side though giving the batsmen a little extra time," says Deep Dasgupta on the broadcast.

09:00 Local Time, 03:30 GMT, 09:00 IST: Morning everyone! It's Day 3 of this Test and it already feels like India have been bowling forever. And there's still some more of it left with Bess and Leach hanging around last evening. What these two do with the bat today may or may not have much bearing with how this day pans out, but their roles will well and truly come into the spotlight when its time to have a crack at the Indian batsmen. Their first tour of India, a pitch that's taken a bit of wear although it's still pretty good to bat on, scoreboard pressure in their favour. If they have a good day, England will go a long way in driving home the advantage.

India lacking the mentality of being the best team in the world: Michael Vaughan

Ben Stokes: Played on instinct I guess (that first six off Ashwin). Something I've been working on. Getting right down the wicket or getting right back. Today initially it looked like a typical subcontinent wicket. But as soon as Nadeem got a couple of balls to turn and bounce out of the rough, I had to make a decision. I decided I would rather get out caught at deep square leg than in timid fashion at short leg. Root's in incredible form. To play like that in alien conditions is incredible. Looking back at my dismissal, probably would've tried to hit a bit straighter. Have to give a lot of credit to Ishant and Bumrah for the way they've run in. Got a lot of respect for that. Something we'll have to do as a unit. Pleasing to win the toss and put a total on the board.

Stokes v spinners was good to watch with the star all-rounder transferring the pressure back on the bowlers with the pitch assisting turn and bounce. He did have two chances put down but he rode his luck. He gave England some brisk runs, while Root stayed calm as ever and milked runs. India ate their reviews in a hurry and that meant Washi is still searching for his first wicket at home. The Indians are just tired after two full days on the field. England have got India exactly where they wanted. They will look for quick runs and pass the baton to the bowlers. The pitch is surely slow, but we did see turn and bounce. You expect India to adapt. But it's a tricky Day 3 in store for the hosts. There could be quick runs if the ball-pitch isn't doing much and Anderson-Archer-Stokes won't be easy with the reversing SG ball. The Indian bowlers would literally demand the batsmen to bat at least five sessions so they get a good amount of rest. India have a real test ahead tomorrow. Join us back at 09:30 as we bring you the scenes. Take care!

16:45 Local Time, 11:15 GMT: Stumps, Day 2 - England have got 555 on the board and more importantly have worn the Indian bowlers down. Injuries, few players playing with niggles, they have just come off an absorbing tour and they are playing a total of 8 successive Tests. Wow that's tough! England won a vital toss and ensured they ran the Indian bowlers ragged in just the first innings of the series. They have mentally pushed India back very early, so full credit to them. Captain Root led from the front. He put on a masterclass yesterday and just continued his lessons. India tried everything... spin, bounce, pace, cutters, but Root was relentless and he broke records for fun in Chepauk today. India did make England work for runs. Nadeem and Washi had a better day with the ball than yesterday. Ishant was outstanding with his control and you couldn't fault Bumrah for his effort anytime. Ashwin pushed his body to the limit, but England managed to see off tough phases, answered the questions and broke all hurdles on the way.
